Over 3 days, Robert and Hollie will teach 10 classes using the Enneagram as a lens to help you experience greater joy, love and peace in your work and relationships.

This special retreat is a celebration of Robert’s new book Becoming Yourself and it also marks the 30-year anniversary of the ground breaking BBC documentary How to Be Happy based on Robert’s work with The Happiness Project.

On 9  Ways of Happiness Robert and Hollie will teach about the 9 lessons of happiness that correspond to the 9 Enneagram Points, as well as teaching about the 9 Enneagram Types and their relationship to happiness.

On this summer retreat you will explore deeply your relationship to happiness: what happiness means to you, when you’re at your happiest, the lessons you’ve learned about happiness, what limits or blocks your happiness, and how to live a happier and more fulfilled life. Key themes include:

  • Know Yourself Better – identify and better understand your Ennea-Type.
  • The Happiness Contract – learn how each Type limits and blocks happiness.
  • Healing the Passion –heal the root of suffering (the Passion) of each Type.
  • 9 Soul Meditations –learning exercises and practices that work for you.
  • Following Your Joy –follow the path of joy for each Ennea-Type.

And A Special Celebratory Evening
Celebration Party: Your ticket includes a special Saturday Night party to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of The Happiness Project, plus the launch of Becoming Yourself, featuring a performance by the London Community Gospel Choir
There will be a buffet dinner (included in fee), singing, and dancing.

THE CURRICULUM
We start with an introduction session on the Enneagram, and after we dive into the 9 Ways of Happiness. Here’s a flavour of the content:

✨ Point 1/Type 1: Joy is My Compass
“Joy is a human’s noblest act,” said Thomas Aquinas. Joy is so much more than a fleeting emotion, but rather a conscious, radical choice and a profound act of love, resilience, and spiritual, mental, or moral courage. Type One Blocks to Happiness: thinking you must be perfect or better than you are, believing joy has no moral value. Soul Meditation: working with Joy as a compass.

✨ Point 2/Type 2: the Gift of Happiness
“Give the world your love, your service, your healing, but you can also give it your joy. This too, is a great gift,” said Desmund Tutu. Your happiness is good for you and for others too. Type Two Blocks to Happiness: believing you must sacrifice yourself for others to be happy, not practising self-care, neglecting your own needs and desires. Soul Meditation: Honouring your soul gifts.

✨ Point 3/Type 3: The Call to Joy
Happiness is not an achievement; it is a way of being. Happiness is not a goal; it is an expression of who you are. Type Three Blocks to Happiness: believing that happiness must be earned, deserved, and worked for; believing that happiness can be bought or sold. Soul Meditation: The joy of living your purpose.

✨ Point 4/Type 4: Task of Self-Becoming
“The most common form of despair is not being yourself,” said Søren Kierkegaard. What is the purpose of happiness? Exploring how happiness helps you to be more authentic in every area of your life. Type Four Blocks to Happiness: the belief happiness is not deep or meaningful, believing you must suffer to be happy. Soul Meditation: Becoming more of the Original You.

✨ Point 5/Type 5: Surprised by Joy
What have you learned about happiness? What are the most common myths about happiness? Type Five Blocks to Happiness: Dropping your cynicism about joy. Imagine standing between two doors: one says “Happiness” and the other says “The Lecture on Happiness”- what door do you walk through? Soul Meditation: Happiness 101.

✨ Point 6/Type 6: The Golden Thread
“Stay centered and love who you are. Know that you really are a Divine, Magnificent Expression of Life,” said Louise Hay. Learning to follow inner guidance and to follow the golden thread of your life. Type Six Blocks to Happiness: not listening to your inner guidance, not trusting yourself, not believing in yourself. Soul Meditation: The Golden Thread.

✨ Point 7/Type 7: Happiness NOW
“There is a world of difference between searching for happiness and following your joy,” wrote Robert Holden in Happiness NOW! Type Seven Blocks to Happiness: the pursuit of happiness, destination addiction, and the fear that happiness is somewhere else. Soul Meditation: Adding more NOW to your life.

✨ Point 8/Type 8: A Deeper Yes to Life
“There’s a bluebird in my heart that wants to get out,” wrote Charles Bukowski, the poet. To be happy, you must be willing to drop your defenses, open your heart, and say a deeper Yes to life. Type Eight Blocks to Happiness: the ego-defense that is past its sell-by date. Soul Meditation: The Big Happiness.

✨ Point 9/Type 9: Living a Happy Life
“We need joy as we need air. We need love as we need water. We need each other as we need the earth we share,” wrote Maya Angelou. Learn to experience JOY as an energy that connects you to a higher power and that helps you bring heaven to earth. Type Nine Blocks to Happiness: the WAIT problem, indecision, being stubborn, and not asking for what you want. Soul Meditation: Saying YES to happiness.

The Nine Ways to Happiness retreat is held in a safe and intimate setting conducive for inquiry and conversation!
